While having food, I suddenly choked, and I noticed everyone panicking—except my parents.
I had tears in my eyes but managed to control them.
I thought — “Why do my parents behave like this…? What have I done to them…? Do they really hate me…? Am I that bad…?”
My thoughts were interrupted when Shivansh asked, “Are you okay…?!”
I just nodded in yes, and Shivansh asked again, “Then why are you not having your food…??”
I didn’t say anything and quietly started eating again. Shivansh also understood that I was not in a state to talk, so he didn’t push further.
After dinner, Shivansh, Nikhil Bhai, Ritu, and I sat together for a little chit-chat.
We had just sat when my phone started buzzing, but I rejected the call. Shivansh noticed and said,
“Why don’t you receive the call? It might be important…”
My phone started buzzing again, and this time I received it. The nurse from the other side said,
“Ma’am, there is an emergency… can you please come…?”
I looked at them, and they all nodded yes, so I said,
“Okay!! I’m coming… get everything ready…”
After cutting the call, I said, “I’m sorry guys… I need to go… it’s an emergency…”
Nikhil Bhai smiled and said, “It’s okay, Bhabhi… we understand it…”
Ritu smiled too and said, “Yes Bhabhi… we’ll anyway get a lot of time after your marriage…”
I smiled faintly. Shivansh took his car keys and said, “Come Ms. Sharma… I’ll drop you to the metro…”
I said, “It’s okay Mr. Singhania… I’ll go by myself…”
Shivansh insisted, “You’ll be late if you look for an auto or cab… so come, I’ll drop you…”
I neither had time nor energy to argue, so I agreed, and we started to leave.
We came out to the living room where all the elders were sitting. When Sucheta aunty saw us, she asked —
“Are… tum dono kahaan ja rahe ho??” (Hey… where are you two going??)
Shivansh replied,
“Actually… Ms. Sharma has got an emergency call from the hospital… so I’m going to drop her to the metro…”
Papa and Mummy didn’t like me going like that, so Mummy said —
“Mana nahi kar sakti thi kya…?? Aaj ke din bhi haan bolne ki kya zarurat thi…??”
(Couldn’t you have refused…?? Why did you agree to go even today…??)
I hesitantly said,
“P… par… Mummy…” (B… but… Mummy…)
Shivansh saw my hesitation and understood well that my parents were against my job, so he interrupted and said —
“Mana kyun karna hai aunty…?? Ye to uska kaam hai… jaane dijiye…”
(Why should she refuse, aunty…?? This is her job… let her go…)
Mummy, slightly irritated, said —
“Par… aaj to chhutti par thi na…” (But… she was on leave today…)
Shivansh smiled and said,
“Aunty… emergencies don’t inform before coming… so… let’s go Ms. Sharma…”
Saying this, he left with me.
Soon we reached the metro station. I got down from the car and said,
“Thank you, Mr. Singhania!!”
Shivansh smiled and said,
“You’re always welcome, Ms. Sharma!!”
We waved goodbye, and I left. I went inside the metro and soon reached the hospital.
(At the Hospital)
As soon as I arrived, I collected the patient’s file, went through it quickly, and entered the OT.
After two long hours, I came out of the operation theatre, completely drained.
I went to the cafeteria to have a coffee.
Sakshi saw me near the vending machine and came toward me.
She asked —
“Tu yahan kya kar rahi hai??” (What are you doing here??)
I took the coffee and said,
“Mmm… I got an emergency call… so I came…”
Sakshi smiled teasingly and said —
“To phir… kya haal hai aapke??” (So then… how do you do??)
I narrowed my eyes and said —
“Tu pagal ho gayi hai kya…?? Kya ho gaya hai tere humor ko…??”
(Have you gone mad…?? What’s wrong with your sense of humor…??)
Sakshi chuckled and then got serious —
“Shree… tu aaj apne parents ke saath… Shivansh ke ghar gayi thi… kya hua vahan…?? Aur… tujhe unhone yahan aane kaise diya…??”
(Shree… you went to Shivansh’s house with your parents today… what happened there…?? And how did they even let you come here…??)
I looked around and said softly,
“Thoda dheere bolegi… mai sab bataungi… lekin yahan nahi… hum tere kamre me jaa sakte hai kya…??”
(Can you speak a little softly… I’ll tell you everything… but not here… can we go to your room…??)
Sakshi checked her phone and said,
“Yes… we can go. My shift is over, and it’s your off day too…”
I sighed in relief, “Then let’s go…”
Both of us went to Sakshi’s hostel.
(In the Hostel Room)
We came in and lay down on the bed. I looked exhausted.
Sakshi gave me water, and I drank it in one go.
Sakshi asked,
“Ab to bataa… kya hua…??” (Now tell me… what happened…??)
I sighed and said,
“Hona kya tha… meri aur Shivansh ki sagai ho gayi… aur 15 din baad shaadi hai…”
(What else could have happened… I got engaged to Shivansh… and we’ll get married in 15 days…)
Sakshi jumped up in shock —
“Kya… teri sagai ho gayi…?? Kab…??” (What… you got engaged…?? When…??)
I sat up too and said,
“Han… aaj hi hua ye sab… ye dekh…” (Yes… it happened today… see this…)
I showed her the ring I was wearing.
Sakshi said —
“Ab tu mujhe ye bata… Shivansh kaisa hai…?? Tu uske baare me kya sochti hai…??”
(Now tell me… how is Shivansh…?? What do you think about him…??)
I took a deep breath and said —
“Hmmm… banda to thik hi hai… supportive bhi hai… maine jab naukri karne ki shart rakhi thi… tab bhi bina drama kiye maan gaya…”
(Hmmm… he’s a nice guy… supportive too… when I put the condition of continuing my job… he agreed without any fuss…)
Sakshi listened carefully and then asked —
“Do you know anything about his past…??”
I nodded no, and Sakshi widened her eyes —
“Tune usse ye sab puccha nahi…?? Kaisi pagal ladki hai tu…?? Jisse shaadi kar rahi hai uske baare me kucch janti bhi hai…?? Ab ye mat bolna ki uska naam to janti hoon mai…”
(You didn’t ask him all this…?? What kind of girl are you…?? You don’t even know the guy you’re marrying…?? Don’t tell me the only thing you know is his name…)
I pouted and said —
“Why should I ask him all this??”
Sakshi slapped her forehead dramatically —
“Hey Bhagwan… ye kaisi pagal ladki hai…?? Usse shaadi karne wali hai aur uske naam ke alawa kuch nahi pata… kya karu mai iska…??”
(Oh God… what kind of girl is she…?? She’s marrying him and knows nothing except his name… what do I do with her…??)
I narrowed my eyes —
“Are… mai ye sab jankar kya karu…??” (Hey… what will I do by knowing all this…??)
Sakshi took a deep breath —
“Are buddhu… tu uske saath poori zindagi bhar ka commitment karne wali hai… to ye sab jaan na tera haq hai… samjhi…??”
(Oh silly girl… you’re getting into a lifelong commitment with him… so knowing all this is your right… got it…??)
I just hummed in response, and Sakshi, who was thinking something, suddenly exclaimed —
“I’ve got a plan for this…”
I asked, “What plan…??”
Sakshi smirked —
“You have his phone number, right…??”
My eyes widened. I knew she was up to some mischief again.
“Dekh Sakshi… tere dimaag me jo khurafat chal raha hai na… use abhi ke abhi bahar phenk de…”
(Look Sakshi… whatever mischief is cooking in your mind… throw it out right now…)
Sakshi’s smirk deepened —
“Don’t worry Shree… I won’t do anything that will cause trouble… please…”
I said no, but eventually, I had to surrender.
I gave her Shivansh’s number. Sakshi called Shivansh from her private number.
On the Call:
Shivansh: “Hello!! Who is this??”
Sakshi: “Ye kya Shivansh… aap mujhe bhool gaye…??” (What is this Shivansh… have you forgotten me…??)
Shivansh: “Ma’am… you’ve called me from an unknown number… who are you…??”
Sakshi: “Ye kya Shivansh… mai Shivani… ab pehchana…??” (What’s this Shivansh… it’s me, Shivani… now do you recognize me…??)
Shivansh: “Kaun Shivani??” (Which Shivani??)
Sakshi: “I’m your junior from college…”
Shivansh: “So what should I do??”
Sakshi: “Actually… I wanted to confess something…”
Shivansh: “Ma’am, I don’t know you… maybe you’ve called the wrong Shivansh…”
Sakshi: “No… no… I’ve called the right person… I know you’re the one I liked during college…”
Shivansh: “Dekhiye ma’am… meri sagai ho chuki hai… aur mujhe wo ladki bohot pasand bhi hai… to aap phone kaat sakti hai…”
(Listen ma’am… I’m already engaged… and I really like her… so you can hang up now…)
Sakshi: “So what…?? Leave her…”
Shivansh (angrily): “How dare you??”
Sakshi: “What’s wrong in that…?”
Shivansh: “Do you even know whom you’re talking about?? She’s my fiancée!”
Sakshi: “I don’t mind that… but I know no one’s better for you than me… I can give you what she can’t even imagine giving…”
Shivansh: “Enough… enough of your nonsense! Do you even know what she means to me?? She’s the reason I’m living. I fell for her the moment I saw her at that party. Even if God himself comes and tells me to leave her, I won’t. I’d rather die than leave her!”
Saying this, he cut the call.
Sakshi had put the call on speaker, so I heard everything.
After the call ended, Sakshi said —
“Hey Bhagwan… Shree… ye to deewana hai tere pyaar me… tere khilaaf ek shabd bhi nahi sun sakta… sahi hai…”
(Oh God, Shree… he’s madly in love with you… he can’t hear a single word against you… perfect!)
I was stunned at Shivansh’s confession and thought —
“Seriously… how can he love me like this…?? I don’t even love him… but still…”
My thoughts were interrupted by Sakshi —
“Shree… I’m so happy for you… finally, you got someone who genuinely loves you… he’s the best for you…”
I said softly —
“No Sakshi… how can he love me…?? What’s special in me…?? Absolutely nothing…”
Sakshi frowned —
“Just shut up Shree… why do you always think negative…”
I said —
“No… I’m not thinking negative… it’s the truth…”
I checked the time and said —
“Oh God… it’s 11:30 already… I should leave now…”
Sakshi nodded, and I left for home.
💞💞💞💞💞💞

After she left Sakshi thought - "Thankyou God... finally she got someone to love her... I know he'll make her feel the best person to exist on earth... Please... please God give her all the happiness... she deserves all the happiness..."
💞💞💞💞💞💞

I cut the call and threw my phone on the bed. Nikhil was lying there too. He asked,
“Who was it??”
I said angrily,
“I don’t know…”
Nikhil, as always, didn’t miss a chance to tease me. He said,
“Han to itni der baat kar raha tha… pata nahi chala kya…??”
(You were talking for so long… still didn’t find out…??)
I gave him a death stare and said,
“Pata chalta to… goli maat deta…”
(If I had found out… I would’ve shot that person…)
Nikhil got up and asked,
“Aisa kya ho gaya bhai?? Itna gussa kyun kar raha hai??”
(What happened?? Why are you so angry??)
I turned towards him and said,
“To… bol to aise rahi thi… ki… chhod rehne de…”
(So… she was saying as if… leave it…)
He lay back down on the bed.
Nikhil sat up again and pulled me closer. He said,
“Bata… kya baat hai…?? Muh tod dunga varna…”
(Tell me… what happened…?? Or else I’ll break your face…)
I loosened his grip and said,
“Bol rahi thi… ki mai Kavyashree ko chhod doon… aur vo mere liye sahi nahi hai…”
(She was saying… that I should leave Kavyashree… and that she’s not the right person for me…)
Nikhil’s eyes widened. He said,
“What?! Who is she to say so?!”
I shook my head.
“I don’t know… and I don’t want to talk about it anymore…”
Nikhil sighed and lay back down on the bed.
“Hmmm… okay!!”
